I’m going to briefly discuss the basic organization of the mind so that you can understand why we so often choose against our own health and our deepest desires.
If you asked me what are two of the biggest drivers of most of the chronic diseases and symptoms that are affecting my patients, I would tell you chronic stress and poor nutrition. I’ve already written many resources about nutrition, and how to create an approach to nutrition that supports our best health. Today, I want to spend some time on the topic of stress.
If we find ourselves experiencing chronic diseases, or feeling bad all the time, there’s a good chance that our body is lacking the information it needs to function well—or it’s receiving the wrong information, which is directly causing harm. No one should believe that chronic diseases are just inevitable and that we are helpless victims of them. We have a say in how our bodies perform, but we must treat our bodies in accordance with this design.
So many of the books written about health, nutrition, and weight loss are written as though the audience is professionals on these topics. Professionals like to write books to each other. We create our theories based on data, consensus, and professional interpretations. This is important work. And these books are very helpful.
